Centrifuge Launches First Licensed Tokenized S&P 500 Index Fund
Centrifuge, in collaboration with Janus Henderson and S&P Dow Jones Indices, has launched SPXA, the first licensed tokenized S&P 500 index fund. This marks a significant milestone in the convergence of traditional finance and blockchain technology.
The SPXA fund will track the S&P 500 index, providing on-chain access to one of the world's most benchmarked financial instruments. The tokenized structure enables programmability, transparency, and composability across DeFi platforms and DAOs.
"The S&P 500 remains the most important index shaping global economies," said Bhaji Illuminati, CEO of Centrifuge. "Tokenizing indices represents the optimal path for bringing traditional equities on-chain - they're simple, collateral-ready, and unlock liquidity in ways individual securities cannot."
The launch signals growing institutional acceptance of tokenization, with Wall Street increasingly embracing blockchain-based financial products. SPXA's structure allows for 24/7 global access to S&P 500 exposure through decentralized finance channels.
